In the year 1997, The International Foundation for Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders (IFFGD) designated April to IBS Awareness Month. During this time, we join patients, family members, and caregivers to increase public awareness about IBS and help in destigmatizing the different types of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). The theme for IBS Awareness Month 2023 along with the hashtags are #IBSAwarenessMonth and #YouandIBS.

April recognized worldwide as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) Awareness Month. This observance aims to increase public awareness and understanding of IBS, which is a common gastrointestinal disorder that affects the large intestine.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) can cause a range of symptoms, including abdominal pain, bloating, constipation, and diarrhea. While the exact cause of IBS is yet to be fully understood till date. It is also believed to involve a combination of factors, including genetics, diet, and stress.

During IBS Awareness Month, organizations and healthcare providers often work to educate the public about the signs and symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), as well as available treatment options. This includes promoting healthy lifestyle habits, such as eating a balanced diet, exercising regularly, and managing stress, as well as medications and other medical treatments that can help manage symptoms.

The IBS period is a time to support others with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and share information. The 2023 theme is increasing public awareness of IBS and helping to destigmatize the different types of IBS. April 19, 2023, is World IBS Day 2023.
